Reminds me of the time-honored warning: Whenever a good ol' boy from the South says, "Hey everybody - watch THIS" stand well back - it's probably the last thang he'll ever do.

My dad told me about how he and three of his friends played with enormous Tesla coils, giant speakers, receivers, chemicals, and a bunch of other fun things during his college days. I'll be sure to befriend a few science majors.

Nice post, but it seems a little incomplete without mention of liquid oxygen...I suggest a Google search on "Grilling with liquid oxygen".

Poor Peeps. All they wanted was to bring joy to some kid on a bright spring day. Sadly, they found themselves used for experimentation much more than for satiation.

Why is the phrase "horribly melted Peeps" so funny to me? It gives me the giggles. Must be the Nitrous Oxide fumes from my failed Peeps experiment.

Oh dear, flashbacks of chemist/physicist parties! They usually start with, "Hey I found some old Sterno!" and result in singed digits, vapourized haybails and/or horribly melted Peeps. I never studied Chemistry or Physics, but those were good times!

The most dangerous thing I've done is filled a giant balloon with hydrogen (used a chemical reaction to get it out of muriatic acid, which is mostly HCl) and ignited it.

Much less dangerous things include cooking a hot dog with a Tesla coil, sticking my hand in liquid nitrogen (if you're quick, there are no problems), and sticking liquid nitrogen in a vacuum chamber (which makes the surface boil away very fast then freeze).

The Radioactive Boy Scout link is a bit dated. Mr. Hahn, now 31, is out of the Navy, but has not exactly taken the straight and narrow path.

In the last few days he was arrrested for stealing smoke detectors from his apartment complex. His mug shot shows his face covered in radiation sores! The cute little tike has all grown up but he's still into nuclear mischief! Hah hah, nice pic, dude! Somebody need a little Proactiv solution?
