More Than Meets the Eye: The Coolest CD/MP3 Player We’ll Never Own

Check out the clever Transforming music player from design genius Yong-Seong Kim. Like a mini-music system that couldn’t figure out what it wanted to be when it grew up, this concept player readily transforms from a pocket MP3 player to a CD player with just a couple of clicks of the frame. Apparently, Kim had the idea while playing with a “dangerously cool” butterfly knife. And while the design is nothing short of brilliant, OhGizmo is stressing the fact that this is just a concept player. Like the concept cars at the auto show (the ones that run on jellybeans and create zero pollution), this will probably never make it to shelves. More at the always terrific OhGizmo.

  1. Never see a store shelf indeed! That CD would be spinning out in the open pretty fast, ready to chop off a finger or whatnot.

  2. Looks awesome! I want one. Pretty impractical though. I’d be concerned about the CD rubbing up against something and becoming horribly scratched. Also… it’s going to be kind of hard to port around in its CD Player configuration. Wouldn’t want something to jam the CD and stop the rock, ya know.

Simon - I highly doubt that its motor has enough umph to do any sort of damage. Even stereo size motors don’t really have the power to do anything.

  3. well, you could including an iris style expanding clamshell easily.

as for damage, ive used cd player motors to run small homemade cutting blades. they do indeed have enough power. the edge of the cd wont do anything, but if it cracked and you had a jagged edge?

  4. Instead of reiterating the impracticality of this product, id rather say:
This looks like the coolest music player I’ll never own! a cd player/mp3 player/death machine
    awesome…
