I'm sure no one really cares, but the Real World was first mentioned on my 10th birthday! YAY!
The article on Marijuana was funny- if a bit hard to follow. It certainly does point to the origins of our current nicknames for "the weed." And, while I think that smoking the stuff is bad for you, now you can go smoke it on good conscience. You're free to use the excuse now, "but the NY Times said it wasn't harmful to smoke weed!"

This review sounds to me (IMHO) as an apologia for bad language skills, a weak plot (Gods, how many orphan stories do we have already?),

Anyone who actually says "Gods" is an ass. You have said "Gods." Hence you are an ass.

Re; Egger's book and Mishiko's review:

If Wallace, McCourt, and Wolfe had not met/been influenced by the various cites in this article, then they would not have been Wallace, McCourt, and Wolfe.

This is like saying Cormac McArthy would have written differently if he were from New Jersey, rather than west Texas, or Sam Clemens would have written differently if he were from Riga, Lithuania, rather than Hannibal, MO, or Tom Swift would have had other axes to grind if he'd been born in the 19th Century. OF COURSE THEY WOULD!

Specious 'logic', along the lines of "All sports cars are red, this car is red, this car is a sports car." The fallacy of the undistributed middle principle.

The authors mentioned DID meet/read their influences. That's what made them who they were, as it does for all of us.

This review sounds to me (IMHO) as an apologia for bad language skills, a weak plot (Gods, how many orphan stories do we have already?), and maudlin sentiment, badly expressed, at the expense of the demise of a number of trees to provide the pulp for the paper it's printed upon.

We are all the culmination of our time, education, genetics, experience, and good/bad luck.

BTW: How DARE he defame Thomas Pynchon and Tom Wolfe?
