It's my understanding that, per state laws about regarding sightings as valid evidence, Washington State does not require physical proof of the presence of an endangered animal to list it as such on the county level. This explains how, apparently, they have put Sasquatch on the Snohomish County Endangered Species List. A friend of mine in the Midwest who knows how long I lived there (in SnoCo, in the town of Snohomish no less) sent me a No Mess With Sasquatch shirt he won, and I still get laughs wearing it around here, where I've yet to hear any monster stories. Evidently that need gets dealt with by the local yay-hoos who get into demonizing timber wolves. As for the Narrows Bridge, well, having been over it in a gale-force autumn storm with an incompetent driver in a hatchback that had no weight over the back axle, it'll be a long time before the octopus is scarier.

And in regards to Australia, the Cracked website has many hilarious articles about the place, my favorite of which is the one about terrifying & lethal wildlife. It ends with a long list of critter-induced ways to die in the Land Down Under (all of which are very, very real, including the extinct one), and under the heading of Things In Australia That Don't Want To Kill You all they have to add is "...Hugh Jackman seems nice."

Sheila, the early ad campaign for Naugahyde referred to the Nauga that had to be hunted for its hide. It was a fun little tall tale that we of a certain age tell our children.

Sorry Ashley Daily. Seems you're wrong about Naugahide.

Naugahyde is a well known and established brand of artificial leather ("pleather"), made from vinyl polymer coated plastic. The product was developed by Uniroyal Engineered Products and is now manufactured and sold by a division of the same company, the Naugahyde Company. Its name comes from the Borough of Naugatuck, Connecticut, where it was first produced.

The wompus cat is an Arkansas thing, too.
It's the mascot for Conway High School.
A wompus cat is like a cougar only it has six legs. "Four to run at the speed of light and two to fight with all it's might."
