It seems likely that typographical errors in an electronic copy of an article from 1934 would have been introduced by OCR.

“Haled” is a word, and that’s what The Times used.

Nene is also a word. But it’s another name for a Hawaiian goose, not a number. My bad.

I think there’s also a few typos in the “War on Terror” story.
“(…)seventy-one persons had been arrested and haled to trial before(…)”
Shouldn’t it be “hauled”? And,
“(…)Moscow region and thirty-nene in the(…)”
should be “thirty-nine.”

For the Dylan story, I’m quite sure the Times wrote “bursting at the seams” not seems. Please tell me that’s you’re typo not theirs.

The article on David Sedaris is actually mentioned in one of the stories in Dress Your Family… It leads to a very awkward apartment cleaning visit.
