turnip.jpgIt’s time for another whimsical Tuesday Turnip Google search wherein I type a random phrase and we see what kind of interesting factoids “turn-up.”

Today I typed in “travels at a rate of,” unearthing the following:

On average, a bumblebee travels at a rate of 3 meters per second

Sound travels at a rate of 761 miles per hour or 1,100 feet per second

Light travels at a rate of 186,282 miles per second

A sonar ping travels at a rate of approximately 4,800 feet per second

The average thunderstorm travels at a rate of 25 miles per hour

Lightning travels at a rate of 60,000 miles a second

[The tram in the St. Louis Gateway Arch] travels at a rate of 240 feet per minute

And my personal fav…

When Heinz ketchup leaves the bottle, it travels at a rate of 25 miles per year

Okay, who has Carly Simon’s “Anticipation” stuck in their heads now? No, how about now?
