I guess this was written without consulting the one-game National League playoff Monday night. Don't book a trip to San Diego. They were defeated by Colorado (Denver) so won't be in the baseball playoffs and thus won't be in the World Series.

If history, and the hex, holds true, you can cross Chicago off the list, too. While they are in the playoffs, they are notorious for losing because a goat has scared them out of the series since 1945. Google it.

Next year -- Book your flights to Milwaukee, which is friendly, beautiful, and warm (hearted) even in October!

My apologies, I only speak the truth.

For anyone in the eastern portion of the country (or headed that way) - the Blue Ridge Parkway this time of the year is the experience of a lifetime. The road runs from the Great Smokey Mountains N.P. in Tennessee/North Carolina to Shenandoah N.P. in Virginia. Despite being a 'mountain road,' the drive is pleasant and easy and in late October the foliage is amazing. There are several scenic overlooks, but one could argue that the entire road is a scenic overlook (and it's OK to stop on the shoulder if you want to take a picture or get a better look!).
