Q. It says here on your website that you have a bi-monthly magazine (Editor’s note: we do =====>). I’d like to pick up a newsstand copy before I commit to subscribing. Do you have a list of places mental_floss magazine is sold?
A. I don’t have a list handy, so let’s build one together. To add a little incentive, we’ll turn this into an impromptu mental_floss t-shirt giveaway.
If you’ve seen mental_floss magazine for sale on a newsstand, in a bookstore, or somewhere entirely different, leave a comment telling us where.
Here’s the win-a-shirt part:
1) We’ve written down one specific location (in one specific city) — first person who mentions this location wins a free shirt.
2) We’ve also written down one specific comment number — we’ll call it x. The person who leaves comment number x also wins a shirt.
3) A virtual thumbs-up will be awarded for the most obscure location, provided it’s true. (Our thumbs will remain firmly neutral for all fictional locations.) OK, we’ll throw in a free t-shirt, too.
If you’re hoping to better your odds, you can name up to five places that stock mental_floss (in separate comments to increase your chances of landing on the magic x). Let the list-building begin.
By the way, when you are ready to subscribe, go here.

I had a mini-mentalfloss party on isle 3. I received a call from Whole Foods who was holding my new Mental Floss Magazine for em. I guess they are now a proud supplier of Mental Floss. ;O)

Berryville in Mt. Shasta, Ca!! Berryville Being one of the health food stores in town, and “Berryville” being the second name of the town/city place that I live. They changed it in the 1800’s to get a Post Office. Too many Post Offices were in a “Strawberry Valley”, which would make it more confusing. After being Berryville for a nice amount of time. It then was changed to “Sisson”. Sisson being the name of this big shot that owned an inn that was really popular. Then in 1924 they changed it to Mt. Shasta. Considering that the town/city thing I live in is on a Mount, which name is Mt. Shasta, this one makes the most sense to me.
I don’t know if we have to say what shirt we want, but my chose would be “You’ve got male”

About a third of the way down the aisle, on your right. Just past the toothbrushes, and just before the denture adhesive.
How’d I do? Did I win? What was the question again?

I picked up my very first issue at the LSA Anaconda East Side PX near Balad, Iraq and then subscribed using a card I pulled out of the issue…though I can’t for the life of me remember which issue it was. It was like January of 2006 or so. It was a total hit with my platoon.

I’ll let anyone who wants to come read my copy of the most recent issue that I have (the Presidents’ Secrets one) for free. All you have to do is come to China. That I’m not paying for. But, yeah, feel free to come to Kunming and read the magazine. If you do come from another country I might even be willing to put you up in my spare room for a night or two.
Yeah, so the location is:
Camille’s apartment, specifically the bathroom counter (I picked it up off the floor of my bedroom to move it the other day and forgot to actually put it in a logical spot), Kunming, China.
If I win, I would be willing to pay for international shipping for the t-shirt. (unless you were already going to pay, then I don’t want to.)

I buy mine at Bookland in Kamloops, BC in Canada. If you’re looking for an obscure place, you could probably find a copy somewhere on or near Ragged Ass Road in Yellowknife, North West Territories in Canada too. Obscure enough for you? And yes, there really is a street called Ragged Ass Road in Yellowknife. They had to take the street signs down and paint them on sides of buildings because the signs kept getting stolen…Is that a tee shirt I see in my inbox????

But, I do most of my shopping on my lunch break. And you can definitely pick up a copy at Barnes and Noble on the Concord Pike in Wilmington, DE.

Some one tell me they have seen it in an airport - I seem to live in airports and am looking for something to read on planes and I’ve never seen it in any of the shops. I’m afraid that if I get a subscription I’ll read it at home before I get on the next plane thus ruining the only enjoyment I ever get on planes.
While I’m in London for the week you have given me a challenge to see if it has made it across the pond and if I can find it here.

I was staying at my uncle’s for thanksgiving in birmingham last year. I didn’t get to read the entire magazine, so i stole it! When I got home and finished it I sent in my subscription and am now a loyal fan! It was the issue with the statue of liberty on it. I still feel guilty about that! Haven’t seen it in a store yet.
