"We Are the World" is one of the worst pop songs ever recorded and USA for Africa was a shambolic mess. Everybody was allowed to be as egotistical as they could be and all participants got plenty of perks, bonuses, comped stuff, etc., while recording and shooting the "charity" single. Contrast that with Band Aid and "Do They Know It's Christmas?" -- not only did they have better songwriters behind the song (Bob Geldof and Midge Ure), but Geldof made damn sure the participants were made aware of the fact that they were recording a single for charity and thus not to expect to be pampered, comped, or treated like a star. I think the stars even had to arrange their own transportation and pay for their own meals. So I wasn't at all pissed off at the 25th edition of "We Are the World" featuring Justin Bieber because it isn't the national treasure people are fooled into believing it is, but I am put off by all post-1989 renditions of "Do They Know It's Christmas".

Oh, and as for "Tears Are Not Enough", in spite of my only recognizing its title as the name of a really good ABC song, its Canadian roster seems redemption-worthy. I'll have to search for the video of it, however. Maybe link it to an extremely good friend of mine (*ahem*), who's a big Gordon Lightfoot fan.

In the “Voices That Care” video at #1, you have in the "What To Look For:" secition that "Ted Danson waving in passing, making me question his involvement (3:24);" You may want to question it even more since it does not appear that he is in the video anywhere at all.

The guy waiving at the screen is the LA King's hockey star Luc Robitaille. The person before him was his teammate Wayne Gretsky who was playing in LA at the time. I can see the passing resemblance to Danson, but I'm pretty close to positive that it's actually Lucky Luc in that video. It also makes more sense at that point in the film in the middle of the other athletes being shown.

Also, your link to the better video version of "Northern Lights: “Tears Are Not Enough”" at the end of that paragraph no longer works. I guess the guys who own the rights to the video apparently made YouTube remove it for copyright infringement.

Seeing the metal bands' video reminded me of a metalhead I worked with back then that I've been laughing at for almost a quarter-century now.

I was hanging out with him one day and he was bragging about his video collection, said he had that vid and named some of the bands represented and by whom. He said, "The lead singer from Spinal Tap is in it, too. I can't remember his name." I told him that was Michael McKean, who'd played Lenny Cowznofski on Laverne & Shirley. He said, "Naw, it's David Something-that-starts-with-an-'S'." I reiterated that it was Michael McKean and he said, "OK, then, if he's American then where'd he get the English accent from, HUH!?"

I said, "He's an actor, man, that's where it comes from, and I'm outta here.", and never saw or spoke to him again.

If I hadn't experienced it I wouldn't believe that anybody is so thick as to think Spinal Tap are a real band.

One other thing to look for in the USA for Africa video is Willie Nelson. He suddenly appears, sings(?) his lines, looks way more confused than Billy Joel then suddenly jerks back out of the frame so fast it’s like he was cold cocked with a side of frozen water buffalo.

The only problem I had with the USA for Africa one was with Bob Dylan.... one of the organizers (Springsteen, or someone like that) said "No egos allowed"... Dylan refused to record with the other stars. All of his parts were done separately and mixed in later.

As far as Band Aid... *NOW* I remember why I loved Bananarama so much! They were hot for the '80's! Hell, they're hot NOW!
