Iknow this post is a bit after-the-fact, but 90% of the "facts" you have here ahve nothing to do with Shelley's novel FRANKENSTEIN, which is THE source of all this other stuff. There are facts about FRANKENSTEIN, its some trivia about a bunch of people who used the IMAGE of the monster to spin off a lot of popular stuff, most of which was inaccurate crap made up by Hollywood.

Having said that, its not all bad the 1st two Karloff flix are well made and entertaining, but completely inaccurate (that is, not "factual")in terms of the actual story. the DeNiro/Branaugh film isthe most accurate represention of the story, and the POINT of the story written by 19 year old Mary Shelley. The creature did not have a "bad brain", he was POed because as soon as he came alive, his creator freaked out and ran away and never saw the creature again for several years. The creature completey educates himself, and goes after hgis creator and his creator's family seeking first to "find out who he is and where he came from" and when the scintist refuses to make him an equally horrible mate,it becomes about revenge. In the book its clear that the "monster" is a far better and more capable human being than the completely irresponsible, egomaniacal sociopath who created and abandoned him.

I like some of the movies, but calling them FRANKENSTEIN is like call "Pro" wrestling a sport.

And FYI Frankenstein is the last name of the guy who pieced themonster together. The monster has no name.

chris, I recently read the book too, and in section II there is a section, right before the creature is made, that speaks about Victor scrounging in the cemetery for body parts. It says he tried to choose the best parts for his creation.

Alternate method to Boris Karloff's Kevin Bacon number of two is:
Karloff starred in the 1963 stinker, The Terror, with Jack Nicholson, who was in A Few Good Men with Kevin Bacon.

Re: "Flesh for Frankenstein"

I also saw the original release, but I have fond memories. The film was hilarious and pretty gross for it's day. The theater we saw it in was packed. It also was originally shown with certain "instructions." The temperature was raised in the theater and they arranged for the smell of formaldehide to permeate the theater during the scenes in the lab. As you might imagine, this was rather puke inducing for those of a sensitive nature. I saw several people being helped out into the fresh air. The strangest movie experience I've ever had.

The movies (except for the 1910 movie posted here) always shows the monster as being a bunch of corpse parts strewn together. I recently read the original Mary Shelley Frankenstein novel (excellent by the way) and unless I missed a couple of words, never saw anything about the Dr sewing together body parts. In mainly implies that he uses various chemicals and lab intruments to create the hulking monster from scratch.
