If Greenland, which is not a nation, counts. . . than a much more clever answer for number 2 is Corsica (Corset – Sick)

And here I thought I was on to something with Somalia for #8 (small ‘e’ ah). It didn’t totally make sense but it was the best one I could come up with.

Also for #5 I had Palau (pillow?).

Mike, you’re right, Greenland is self-governing but isn’t classified as an independent nation. My bad. And your Cape Verde answer was spot-on, so I counted that one.

I still have a hard time thinking of The Holy See as a nation, but not Greenland. I mean, Greenland is what, forty times bigger than the nation that controls it (Denmark)? It’s kinda like how the U.K./Canada was before the Great White North gained its independence.

Greenland? Unite! Independence! Viva la Resistance!

Greenland is a nation? Independence is usually part of that definition, unless you want to count all ethnic groups as “nations.”

Not to take away from the brilliance of getting the Italy clue — and just as clever, the Euler number as serial minus the “l” — but still, if Greenland is a nation, then so is Quebec, etc.
