I wonder whether Awesome is confusing Macavity with Casper, another cat that rode the buses (in Plymouth, UK). Casper was indeed run over and killed by a car, and there is now a book out about his adventures. But what has happened to Macavity is that the bus service he used to ride was withdrawn in April 2010 and no longer operates. I don't think he was killed -- but I don't know whether he has found an alternative bus to use!

Awesome, you're thinking of Tama, who was featured in a previous post. http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/17193

I'm sad to hear about Macavity.

Macavity was killed recently, I read. Got hit by a car. I was so sad.

What about the cat that lived in the train station? I think that's in Japan somewhere.

In Key West, Florida there was/is(have not been in a long time) a shop called the Cat House where all sorts of cat memoribilia is sold. Toys, posters, mugs, anything and everything involving cats can be found there. What made/makes the store unique is a couple of things. It actually was a brothel at one point the origional bar is still in veiw. Even better though was the resident cat named....Madame. Her bed was at the front door where she spent most of her day greeting customers. She passed away in the 90's but was a truly sweet animal. I just feel like she should be on this list.

Jenny, this isn't meant to be a ranked list, just interesting stories. And it was written over a year ago. I am always looking for more interesting cat stories, so I will have to look up Dewey Readmore Books!

What about Dewey Readmore Books? That cat's story was the best selling book of last year. In fact, that puss is getting a movie based on his life. He was one awesome cat. I'm saddened that he wasn't mentioned in this top 5 feline list.

Great stories...but even the most famous cats don't compare to the loyalty and heroism of an average dog.
