Cute animal videos: the trifecta
by Ransom Riggs - November 12, 2007 - 10:18 AM

YouTube has become an invaluable resource to ‘net surfers (not to mention bloggers) everywhere, and while it may be an impressive storehouse of great short films, historic and ephemeral footage, sometimes-brilliant vlogs and bizarro scavenger hunts, the site’s crowning achievement has been its collection of cute animal videos. The temptation to aim video cameras at one’s pets, and then share the results with the world, must be impossible to resist — that’s the only way I can explain why pets are so overrepresented on the internet. But with great quantity, sometimes, comes occasional quality; the one benefit to having access to millions of cute animal videos is that some of them are actually pretty cool, and the cream tends to rise to the top.

Dramatic prairie dog
This is like a full-motion LOLcat. Excerpted from a Japanese TV show which is anything but dramatic, a little editing and music made this clip into internet magic. Witness for yourself:

Sneezing baby panda
The tension this video builds is incredible; the envy of any Hollywood movie trailer editor. Watch it at least three times to get the full effect.

Otters holding hands
For the ultimate in anthropomorphic cuteness, there’s “otters holding hands.” Sure, maybe they’re in love, and this is just an early stage of their otterly courtship. But I’m sure there’s another, harsher, more animal kingdomy explanation. Judge for yourself:

  1. These are wonderful, but for cuteness, you can’t beat Mocha’s First Broccoli.

  2. Thanks
My blood sugar was running a little low and I needed a good sugar boost.

  3. And Pixie and Wicket on Halloween : )

  4. Wow. I’ve seen all three of those before.

But on the topic of the prairie dog, now that you’ve seen the original, go back and search for:

    “Prairie Dog, Du Hast”

    Enjoy XP xD

  5. Far too cute.
Have you seen the kissing red pandas yet? search that phrase on youtube to see them

  6. I’m not sure if the ‘Kissing Red Pandas’ are ‘cute’, but rather borderline creepy. Watching 2 animals make out that makes me question if I have broken any laws or something.

  7. And to prove the old adage that you cannot have too much of a good thing - itsanimals.com has dozens of the best animal and pet videos as well as a whole load of animal news and entertainment.

  8. And let’s not forget THE best website on the internet: www.cuteoverload.com

I go there several times a day, and am never disappointed. It’s a good time to start browsing it too; we’re right in the middle of Nose-vember (which followed ‘Tock-tober, of course).

  9. And by “best website on the internet,” I meant “best website for finding cute animals and cute things…” on the internet… Mentalfloss rules!

  10. i love the frirst 1 n the secont 1!! thair sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cutie!!! i love hamsters!!!
    love
