christopher: While there is some discussion over the creator of "Lady in a Fur Wrap," it has generally been accepted as an El Greco, and is classified as such at the Glasgow Museums. (Also, I can't seem to find a record of a Sofonisba Lavinia... perhaps you're thinking of Sofonisba Anguissola or Lavinia Fontana?)

Sid: totally with you. I´m not a fan of contemporary art. It´s much more fun (for me at least) to see the subjects of these old paintings and try to imagine what their lives were like way back when. I mean, look at their faces, they way they dressed... Can´t you just imagine them going about their daily lives? It´s fascinating!

I say thank goodness for copyright laws! I for one can do without the Pop Art (er... "Neo Dadaist", excuse me) movement Kelly embraces.

There's no shortage of great works out there and Andréa has been pretty skillful thus far to pick ones not "over-exposed" through the years. Keep'em coming and take solace in knowing there are lots of us not missing the contemporary work. Let's keep the clock turned back a little...

Kelly J: I'd love to cover some contemporary art, but we're currently covering/posting only pre-1900 artwork, to avoid any copyright problems. I'll still add your suggestion to my list, though, in case it becomes possible soon.

Andrea- great job! As an art minor I'm loving this series. I know it's a post late but I have a suggestion- how about some contemporary art? One that fascinated me was when I saw the Rauschenberg:Combines exhibit at the Met, and finally got to see one of my favorite works of his, (I believe it was called Bed) which one of my art history Professors told me was related to his relationship with Jasper Johns, which was always rumored to be sexual. It is so great that there are still art history mysteries in our time!
