Great news, childless clock enthusiasts! These towering timekeepers don’t have anything to do with being a grandpa. Rather, they take their name from the 1876 song “My Grandfather’s Clock,” which describes a clock that “was too large for the shelf, so it stood 90 years on the floor.” The British ditty was so popular that all long-case clocks came to be known as grandfather clocks.
