It's time for another whimsical Tuesday Turnip Google search wherein I type a random phrase and we see what kind of interesting factoids "turn-up."
I don't mean to scare you folks, but this is what gone and turned-up when I typed in "three out of four American homes." Sort of a dark Tuesday Turnip... but that's the nature of a random fact find, I guess.
The most profound change in food preparation arrived with the microwave oven, now in use in three out of four American homes. Because the oven does not cook evenly, salmonella may not be killed in chicken, parasites may continue to live in fish.
Three out of four American homes have more than one television. Seventy-seven percent of American sixth-graders have a TV in their bedrooms. The average individual American watches television for roughly four hours a day, and the average American household watches over seven hours of television a day. According to one study, television accounts for nearly 40% of the average American's free time.
According to U.S. Department of Justice data, an American home is burglarized every 8 seconds. In the next two decades, three out of four American homes will be burglarized.
