I'd never heard of the artist Dave Cole before, but when I saw this pic on Neatorama, I immediately rushed to look him up. Apparently, the photo of The Knitting Machine comes from a large-scale 2005 exhibit where Cole tried to mesh the "feminized domestic American tradition of knitting with the grandiose gesture of construction." Whatever the theory, I think it'd be pretty cool to watch enormous construction equipment assembling something so delicate. Link via Neatorama.
