Microscopic Artwork by Willard Wigan
By Jill Harness

Willard Wigan is not your average sculptor and the photo above is not Photoshopped. His tools consist of a microscope and fibers to sculpt miniature figures on the head of pins. With every breath, he runs the risk of accidentally inhaling his art.
"It began when I was five years old," says Willard. "I started making houses for ants because I thought they needed somewhere to live."
If you are interested in seeing his work, it is on tour through the US and it is currently on exhibit in the Nicole Gallery in Chicago. But if you just want to know more about the challenges he faces in making the artwork, you can always view the interview on Laughing Squid.
