Amazing Sculptures Made With Matchsticks

Jill Harness

Admittedly, you probably wouldn't want to keep one of David Mach's incredible artworks in your living room—at least not without a fireproof glass display case—but regardless of the potential dangers, these matchstick sculptures truly are spectacular.

His Matchhead series depicts heads of starlets, skulls, fictional characters and animals, all created with little more than matchsticks. If you're wondering how he can make something so accurate, the key is that he starts out with plastic models of each head for a little guidance. As for the amazing color palette he's acquired, well, he specially sources the matches from all over (many come from Japan) to ensure he has every color he may possibly need for a project.
