Science fiction has long been imagining what the future will look like—flying cars, robotic servants, Terminator-like vision—and nothing, not even Santa Claus, has been exempt. Smithsonian has gathered a few examples of how artists of the past thought Santa might deliver presents in the future.

Most saw Santa ditching Rudolph and company for machines resembling airships. Others thought he might travel by car (though how he'd cross oceans is a mystery). At least one showed Santa in what looks like a hang glider—which can't be an efficient way to transport presents.

Head on over to Smithsonian to see a few more ways 19th century artists thought Santa might deliver presents.
