Brain Game: As I was going to St. Ives

I was 27 when I got married, and it's probably a good thing that I waited. I often wonder how anyone younger than that manages to pull it off successfully, but many do. If you're lucky like me and love your spouse, give him or her a quick call and say so. Don't put it off until Valentine's Day; do it right now. I'll wait. Then come back and try today's Brain Game:

On a trip to Indiana, I met a man named Ezra who was 24 years old. He had no children of his own, but he had married seven different women. He did not divorce any of the women; their marriages had not been annulled, and he had not otherwise become legally separated from any of them. Nor did any of them die, yet the situation was perfectly proper and legal. How is this possible?

Here is the SOLUTION.

THE SOLUTION:

Ezra was a minister. He married the seven women... in his church... to other men.
