I'm not quite old enough to remember when the press blasted John Lennon for saying that The Beatles were "bigger than Jesus." Of course, the band had a hard time living down the statement, and Lennon himself did much to explain why he said it and how he didn't intend to put down Christianity. But some believed strongly that The Beatles did tie in to religion and the Bible, and that's the concept that led to Free-for-all Friday here at the mentalfloss.com Brain Game. Here we go:

How many of the 27 books of the New Testament share their
names with the first names of members of The Beatles?

Here is the (surprising!) ANSWER.

THE ANSWER:

FIVE.

No, there isn't a Ringo (Richard) or George, and no book named Paul, but the 20th book is James (Paul's first name is James) and there are four Johns: the 4th book John (the Gospel According to John), and the 23rd, 24th, and 25th books, I John, II John and III John (also known as the First, Second, and Third Epistles of John).

Some Beatles fans may find it interesting that the book right after I John, II John and III John is Jude. Hey!

Have a nice weekend, and rest up for the Monday Math Square.
