A Day in the Life of John Green

John Green is very, very busy. Here's how he spends his time.

5:30 a.m.

My assistant sends me an email of top priority stuff.

6:30 a.m.

Get up and get my son dressed and ready for school.

8:00 a.m.

Arrive at my office and try to deal with email.

9:30 a.m.

Get to the Crash Course studio and start working through the script with the team. (We’ll be shooting all day.)

1:00 p.m.

On days we’re not shooting, I write from 9:30 to 1 and then start dealing with phone calls, interviews, etc. We run a merch company via DFTBA Records—so I’m figuring out the launch of new products, hiring new employees, and growing the business.

3:00 p.m.

Back at the office, I work on a new book for an hour or two.

5:00 p.m.

Look over the stuff we made this week that’s going up next week—the mental_floss video, Crash Course, etc.

6:00 p.m.

Go home and take over from the nanny, hang out with my kids.

7:00 p.m.

Put the kids to bed.

8:00 p.m.

My wife and I say we’re going to watch a movie, and then we watch a movie with our laptops open. Nighttime is when I can deal with big strategic questions about the biz or hiring decisions.
