Few people stop to marvel at the remarkable inner workings of the human ear. Music, voices, and the soothing sounds of nature are all perceptible to hearing persons, thanks to a complex but rapid process involving both the ear and the brain—otherwise known as the auditory system. The ear converts sound into neural signals, which are received and processed by the brain.
