The Most Iconic Food Chain in Each State

Reader Lisa asked if we could make a map with the most successful fast food restaurant in each state, which sounded fun! But there were two issues: 1) in most states it's probably just McDonald's, and 2) the good people at Thrillist did something similar last year. So let's look at their map instead.

According to Matt Lynch, the map above shows "the most noteworthy restaurant chain (with an emphasis on fast food where possible) associated with each state. Could mean it was founded there.
