It's Official: Venom Is Getting a Sequel

It's official: Tom Hardy is coming back for a Venom sequel.
The film, which will once again follow Hardy as Marvel anti-hero Eddie Brock/Venom, will see original co-writer Kelly Marcel return to pen the script; she'll also executive produce the film. Without divulging any numbers, Variety reports that Sony's sequel deal with Marvel “was a significant one.” Given that the first film, which arrived in theaters in October 2018, earned more than $855 million worldwide, that’s certainly not surprising.
Along with Hardy, Michelle Williams—who plays Brock’s love interest, Anne Weying—is also expected to return, as is Woody Harrelson’s Carnage, whom we saw only briefly in the first film’s post-credits scene.
Although Venom did well at the box office, many Marvel fans were less than pleased with the film. Finding it rather flat, critics considered Hardy’s talent to be the only redeeming factor—and even that was rather muddled by what some people found to be extremely poor CGI.
Despite all that, we’re sure fans of Venom’s story will be back in theaters when the sequel hits.
