Here's a short video explaining how visually impaired people experience movies.

After watching this, you might check out the list of audio-described DVDs in case you're a sighted person who's curious what the listening experience is like—if you have one of these DVDs, just play the descriptive audio track through your speakers and turn off the TV. (There's also a list of movie theaters offering descriptive audio. Regal has its own list of showtimes with descriptive audio, though the page is so huge it freaked out my browser.)
