Youngest Siblings Think They're Funniest in the Family

Parents tend to favor their youngest child (at least according to a 2018 survey). Another survey says that youngest siblings think they're the funniest in the family, too.

YouthGov, a UK-based polling firm, questioned 1561 British adults with at least one sibling in 2015 [PDF]. When asked whether they were funnier than their siblings, 36 percent of oldest children said they were, while 46 percent of youngest children claimed they were funnier.

The poll showed that youngests were more carefree in general: 42 percent stated they were more relaxed compared to their siblings, but just 31 percent claimed to be more responsible. In contrast, 54 percent of eldest children considered themselves more responsible. The survey also found that 17 percent of youngest children felt that their parents favored them more, while only 10 percent of eldest children felt that way.

The reasons behind the differing opinions was unclear, though. “To some extent age itself, rather than family dynamics, may be responsible for differing characteristics,” YouthGov reported.

Birth order isn't everything, after all.
