In this short clip from The Curiosity Show, we learn about the Edison Phonograph, which played wax cylinders. The sound quality wasn't great, the cylinders wore out easily, but it was a pretty awesome way to get sound recordings in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Enjoy:

I particularly enjoyed the notion of "modern" LPs and 45s. Layers upon layers of technology here, watching a YouTube clip of a videotape of a show from a few decades back, itself talking about the distant past.
