100 Years of Beauty in One Minute

The YouTube channel Cut Video profiles a century of female beauty with their series 100 Years of… In the first episode, which clocks in at a little over a minute, a model is transformed by a team of hair and makeup artists into the beauty ideal for white women in America for every decade of the 20th century.

Episode two demonstrates how African American beauty standards have changed over the past 100 years, while subsequent episodes explore beauty in Korea, Mexico, and Iran. (Iran is particularly interesting; the country's late 20th century religious and political upheaval can be seen in the model's increasingly conservative looks.)

Other YouTube channels have taken notice of Cut Video's fascinating explorations of culture through beauty, and are ushering viewers through 100 years of looks in Vietnam, Lithuania, Mongolia, and more.
