Trying to drink more water (and fewer sugary drinks) is a noble health goal, especially as the weather gets warmer. But a new high-tech water bottle company is betting people need more than encouragement from public health campaigns to keep swilling. HidrateMe is a new water bottle that takes an active part in your water-intake goals: it glows to remind you to drink more.

The water bottle is linked to your phone and keeps track of how often it’s filled. An app connected to the bottle via Bluetooth calculates how much you should drink for the day based on your physical activity and health information. If you neglect your water regimen, the bottle glows to alert you to start drinking.

Do people really need another app that does little more than tell them they might be thirsty? Probably not, but the HidrateMe bottle has already raised more than $200,000 above its $35,000 goal on Kickstarter. While, theoretically, most people can keep track of their own hydration, that’s not quite as fun as watching a bottle light up throughout the day.

You can buy one on Kickstarter for $45. It’s scheduled to ship in December.
