Do You Have an Ear for Quality Audio?

Caitlin Schneider

Sure, nothing sounds quite as good as vinyl, but are all of the “lesser” forms of digital audio created equal?

Objectively speaking, no, but NPR has a nifty quiz to test whether your ears can tell the difference between large uncompressed audio files and smaller MP3s (320kbps and 128kbps in size). They note that factors like headphone and room quality can alter your listening experiences, but even under the best conditions, discerning which audio stream reigns supreme can be a challenge.

Click here for the quiz, crank your volume all the way up to 11 and find out whether you can call yourself an audiophile.
