What does it take to be the world champion of Nintendo? Nintendo just held its first world championship since 1990, putting video game masters through their paces over the course of five rounds of games like The Legend of Zelda, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros.

The final match involved a bonkers round of an all-new level of Super Mario Bros. Just how hard was it? Check out the tournament play for yourself in the videos below.


At the end of the tournament, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto awarded the grand prize to participant John Numbers, whose skills you see in the second video above.
