National Geographic started in 1888 and in the decades since has continued to educate readers about world cultures, science, and the environment. Now, the famed publication has teamed up with Reebok for a shoe collection inspired by the world around us.

The new Reebok x National Geographic collection features a wide variety of shoes for adults and children that pay homage to nature. To create this collection, the shoe brand collaborated with two National Geographic Explorers, large carnivore ecologist Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant and photographer Matthieu Paley, to create the ultimate adventure shoes. “Shoes are the ultimate portal into exploration,” Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant said in a Reebok press release. “They provide protection as we travel through new terrains, but also, over time they often tell amazing stories about the journeys we’ve taken and the experiences we’ve [gone] through."

In this collection, there are nine family-friendly shoe styles featuring the publication’s iconic yellow square border, and which evoke different natural environments. Many of them are made from plant-based materials, too. One such pair is the icy blue arctic National Geographic Nano X1 Grow shoes in both women’s and men’s sizes for $150 each. These kicks use a plant-based Flexweave knit for the upper portion and castor bean Floatride Energy Foam for the sole’s cushioning. All the materials used to make this shoe, from the glue to color dye, were sourced using animal-free ingredients.

The collection also features a shoe inspired by bioluminescence in the ocean. Available for $120, the Floatride Energy 3 Adventure women's and men’s shoes shoes embody this natural phenomenon through its colors, textures, and ability to glow in the dark. The midsole of these shoes illustrate this luminous effect and at least 30 percent of the upper portion of the shoe is made from recycled materials.
