We've all had a hamburger, but have you ever heard of a hamburg steak? Originally served chopped and cooked with a side of potatoes, the predecessor to the modern American hamburger came from German immigrants but also has ties to Russia and even the Mongolians.
Once it came stateside, food vendors across the country couldn't serve enough of them. It found its home on a bun and officially became the 'hamburger sandwich' in New Haven, Connecticut, at a food cart known as Louie's Lunch.
