You've bought the rings, sent out invites, and ordered a cake. The only thing left to do: reserve the alpaca.

In the Tochigi Prefecture of Japan, happy couples exchanging vows at the Hotel Epinard Nasu are doing exactly that. The alpacas are offered as a feature of their basic wedding package, along with photos, and come from a neighboring zoo.

No one is quite sure how the alpaca witnesses became so popular in Japan. In the mostly secular country, however, there's a trend towards more informal Western-style weddings, which are seen as a welcome alternative to traditional Shinto ceremonies.
