Want to Live Like a Caveman? The Flintstones House Is up for Sale

Picture Bedrock, but with modern plumbing. That's the aesthetic of a quirky, modernist residence in Hillsborough, California that locals have dubbed the "Flintstones House." Now, after 19 years, the prehistoric-looking pad is on the market for $4.2 million.

Architect William Nicholson wasn’t honoring Fred Flintstone when he built the structure in 1976. In fact, the home was originally white until an owner painted its uneven, free-form surface a shocking shade of orange. Its sloping walls and domed ceilings were inspired by a new building technique called “monolithic dome construction,” which was invented in 1975 by the South brothers. The unusual contours were formed by spraying concrete over wire mesh frames and inflated balloons.

However, the building is more spacious indoors than its crooks and crannies suggest. The floor plan includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms—perfect for a family of four, like Fred, Wilma, Pebbles, and Dino.

Sadly, fans won’t get to have a yabba dabba doo time inside the house any time soon. It's being shown by appointment only—presumably to people who aren’t scared away by its price tag.
