See What It's Like to "Paint" With LEGO

Caitlin Schneider

Artist, animator, and filmmaker Jon Rolph is just 19 years old, which seems like the perfect age to marry the playful instincts of childhood with the skillful eye of adulthood.

Rolph has created a short film called “Paint” in which he renders Composition II in Red, Blue, and Yellow by Piet Mondrian with LEGOs using stop-motion animation. It’s an incredibly soothing way to spend a couple of minutes (Schubert's Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major certainly helps), and serves as a lovely reminder that you don’t need a tube of acrylic to turn your canvas of choice into something amazing.
