A ‘Cloud’ of 1100 Umbrellas Transform Finland's Habitare Design Fair

Visitors to this year’s Habitare Design Fair in Helsinki were greeted by a whimsical canopy of 1100 white umbrellas suspended above the main stage. The installation was the collaboration of environmental artist Kaisa Berry and creative director Timo Berry of the Finnish design agency BOTH. Kaisa told Furniture Today that their aim was to "approach the often over-serious design scene by using art, stage design and a bit of kitsch.”
As light filtered into the room throughout the day, the white plastic umbrellas captured blue and purple hues highlighting the installations' cloud-like design. The theme of the event was “Breaking Free” and even had aerial acrobats perform under the canopy to add to the dreamy display.
The fair was just one portion of Helsinki Design Week, the largest design festival in Scandinavia. Both design professionals and members of the public visit each year to see and present the latest trends in the field. You can check out more design highlights from the event here.
