Kittens suffer through them; so do dogs, and horses, and porcupines. But to this day, no one seems to know exactly why anyone gets the hiccups. Just as mysterious as their cause: how to actually make them go away. All that stuff you heard about holding your breath, or asking someone to scare you, or breathing into a paper bag is, for the most part, just a bunch of old wives' tales.
