During Sunday’s New York City Marathon, one runner was spotted carrying some extra weight. That participant was Jose Zambrano of the El Segundo, California Fire Department, who ran the 26.2-mile race in his full firefighting gear.

This photo was snapped by Today show and Morning Joe co-host Willie Geist and later identified by his Twitter followers. The recent marathon was just one of many events Zambrano has competed in while lugging around his 45 pounds of equipment. He's also run marathons in Chicago, San Francisco, and Orange County. With each race, he hopes to raise awareness and honor the fallen firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty. You can visit his GoFundMe page and help support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which works to increase firefighter safety and assist the families of those we’ve lost.
