This High-Tech Cup Will Tell You When It's Time to Hydrate

Staying hydrated should be a simple task: Just drink water when you’re thirsty, and you’ll be good to go. But when people get busy, it’s easy for them to ignore their thirst, or forget to pause for a glass of water. Which may be why multiple studies over the years have found that the majority of Americans of all ages don’t drink enough.

A new start-up called Mark One wants to help people stay hydrated with a high-tech cup called Pryme Vessyl. The smart cup, which connects to a mobile app, monitors the amount of water you consume over the course of the day, and notifies you when it’s time to drink more. According to Gizmodo, it also uses factors like your age, weight, gender, and activity to gauge exactly how much, and how frequently, you should be drinking.

The Pryme Vessyl uses a “proprietary hydration algorithm” to tailor its readings to your specific hydration needs, and will notify you not only when it's time to drink, but also when you've reached optimal—or "pryme"—hydration levels. While it seems a bit extreme to use such complex technology just to remind people to have a glass of water, the high-tech cup may be a great option for anyone who’s really struggling to stay hydrated during the day—or anyone interested in checking out the latest smart technology.
