This Black Friday, You Can Adopt a Pet for Free

Amid all the crazy Black Friday deals retailers are offering this year, one of them stands out as a little less materialistic—and a lot more magnanimous—than the rest.

From the day after Thanksgiving until Cyber Monday, online shoe and clothing store Zappos will sponsor free pet adoptions from the Best Friends Animal Society and its hundreds of participating network partners. You’ll get to save a cat or dog without shelling out any of the usual required fees, and as an extra incentive, Zappos will also donate $150 to the animal rescue organization for each pet that finds a forever home. (The company has committed to spending up to $1.1 million on the initiative.)

The campaign is called “Home for the Pawlidayz,” and you can scope out the complete list of Best Friends and partner locations online, or watch a Facebook video for more information. Considering that approximately 7.6 million pets enter animal shelters in America each year, this is a fantastic act of Thanksgiving goodwill for both cats and dogs—and the people who love them.
