Good news for fans of old-school video games: For the first time in 25 years, Nintendo is officially supporting Super Nintendo gaming for on-the-go handheld consoles. You can now download original SNES launch titles like Super Mario World, F-Zero, and Pilotwings for the Virtual Console for the New Nintendo 3DS in both standard and XL sizes.

The gameplay has been tweaked for the new 3DS, but players can choose a “Pixel Perfect” option, which will allow them to play the games in their original resolution. Nintendo also plans to release other SNES games for download over the next several weeks, including EarthBound, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, and Super Mario Kart.

Unfortunately, SNES support is only available for the New Nintendo 3DS and not the original. Each game retails for $7.99 at the Nintendo eShop.
