Who needs vinyl? Eminem announced on Twitter that he’ll be re-releasing The Slim Shady LP on cassette tape. The Detroit rapper’s breakthrough album was originally released by Aftermath Entertainment through Interscope Records and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 in 1999. Featuring the hit singles “My Name Is,” “Role Model,” "Just Don't Give a F*ck," and “Guilty Conscience” (featuring Dr. Dre), The Slim Shady LP won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album the following year. It’s unclear why Eminem has decided to re-release the album on cassette tape instead of vinyl (like most special reissues), but it’s good to see someone giving some love to the underrated retro format.

There’s no word on an official release date yet, but fans can sign up at Eminem’s Shady Records to gain early access to the cassette tape, along with exclusive merchandise.
