As we've previously covered with Golden Eye 007, game design program Unreal Engine 4 is perfect for breathing new life into classic (but visually clunky) video game titles. YouTube user CryZENx has been taking full advantage of the engine, converting classic video game characters like Mario, Sonic, and Charmander into shiny modern renditions.

Recently, the talented fan gave the Death Mountain Crater section of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time a total facelift. The rocks look more realistic, the lava actually seems dangerous, and you can see the fire reflecting in Link's eyes. (As Kotaku points out, the Link used to explore the update level is actually child Link sporting the Goron tunic.)

To explore the area yourself, you can download the demo from the link on the video’s description.
