Now that Deadpool is the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time worldwide, the eponymous superhero has gone from being a cult favorite among comic fans to a household name. After seeing the film, a fan and chemical engineer named Britt Michelsen abandoned plans to create an Asterix-inspired Julius Caesar knife block and decided that the Merc with a Mouth was a better fit.
Using her skills with freeware like Autodesk Recap 360, Sculptris, and Autodesk Meshmixer, along with designs found online and 3D modeling tools, Michelsen perfected a bust of the character and used a 3D printer to bring him to life. She then shared the entire process, from idea to execution, online via Instructables. The tutorial features files, links, and tips for anyone who wants to try their hand at the project. For those unfamiliar with Deadpool, walking into a friend's home and seeing a head with knives in it may be a bit unsettling, but that's what makes it such a great conversation starter.
