Minecraft isn't known for its realistic graphics, but the game's universe is about to feel a lot more believable to players who download the virtual reality version for Gear VR.
As Mashable reports, Minecraft: Gear VR Edition is now available to purchase for $7 from the Oculus store. Players with a compatible smartphone—like the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6, or Note 5—can pop the phone into their Gear headset and immerse themselves in Minecraft's pixelated universe. (The game also works with some older Samsung phones, but for an optimal virtual reality experience it's best viewed with the latest devices.)
This virtual version of Minecraft: Pocket Edition isn't our first test of Minecraft's VR potential. Last year, Microsoft demonstrated the game in 3D using the company's augmented reality HoloLens visor. An additional VR Minecraft game is also in development for the $600 Oculus Rift headset. If you can't get your hands on one of those or the $100 Gear, you can get a feel for the virtual reality gameplay in the video above.
