Can You Really Ripen an Avocado in the Oven?

Planning a meal around avocados requires some foresight, since most of the fruit you can buy at the grocery store is a few days away from being ripe. But there’s a way around the waiting period, according to a life hack we spotted over on Boing Boing.
Here’s the premise: Stick the avocado in the oven and heat it for a few minutes, waiting for it to soften. But does it actually work? We decided to test it out.
We chose the hardest avocado we could find at a local fruit stand. Per the directions, we wrapped it in foil and put it in the oven at 250°F for 10 minutes ... and then for 15 minutes. And then for 25.
Unfortunately, it didn’t get much softer. If we're being generous, it may have been slightly softer than it was in the beginning—or maybe it was just warm. See for yourself:
Either way, this avocado was not ready for guacamole. Guess you really do need to plan ahead.
