Over or Under: Which Is the Right Way to Hang Your Toilet Paper?

Domestic life is filled with mysteries. Is there really a proper way to load the dishwasher? How often should you wash your towels? And here’s a question for the ages: Which way should you really hang your toilet paper—over (in front of) or under (behind) the roll?
Believe it or not, you and your roommates (or significant other) aren’t the first curious minds to tackle this question. That’s why Lifehacker posted the video above, courtesy of explainer YouTube channel Wendover Productions. The clip debates pros and cons of both the “over” and “under” method and even explains how your age, socioeconomic status, political beliefs, and personality may affect your TP-hanging preference.
In short, there’s no “right” way to position your TP on the hanger, so long as it works for you. However, if you’re a member of Team “Over” and find yourself caught in a heated disagreement over the matter, simply whip out this 1891 patent for perforated toilet paper—complete with drawings of a hanging roll, its end draping over the paper-filled tube—to settle the score once and for all.
